DJ grabs strawberries from the trifle bowl
Dai looks at his birthday cards, and DJ reminds him, “The Grim Reaper is a year closer!”   Diane says she wants him home after the Rugby Club committee meeting, as she has a surprise for him.   “You can’t have too many surprises,” says Dai, but DJ looks rather dubious about this.
The house is cleaner than it has been for years
Colin is busy vacuuming when Iolo returns, accompanied by Siôn and Britt;  he appears to be improved, and tells Colin and Gethin that he has been assessed by the psychiatrist and is on antidepressants.   “Welcome back” says Gethin.
Pay day loan interest is astronomical!
As Ed is astounded by the interest rates on pay day loans, Eileen arrives at the Deri, wanting to know where Sioned is, and what is going on.
"What's going on with Sioned?"
Ed replies that she needed some time to think, and assures Eileen that she is not in trouble.
DJ doing a bit of fencing, but Cadno thinks differently
At Penrhewl, Cadno wants DJ to look at the mower, but he has been given a fence repairing task by Jim.   “I’m your boss, not Jim!” she says, and DJ complains that he is being pulled in all directions.
"Look – a new mug, just like the old one"
Gethin produces a new mug, with Iolo’s name, and Iolo seems more relaxed;  he is on medication while he looks for treatment, and is more comfortable talking about OCD now.   Dr Smith helped him to get things into perspective.   However, Gethin confides to Colin that he would probably be better looked after at Y Felin.
"Eifion needs a little persuading"
At the café, Siôn tells Hywel that it does not look as if Eifion wants the job;  Hywel replies, “All he needs is a little persuading – remember his circumstances!”   When Eifion arrives, Hywel tells him it would benefit the club if he stood, as he has leadership potential.
Although Eifion is doubtful, Hywel continues, “Now you’ve left Penrhewl, you can invest some of your . . . time in the club.”
"It's a bit unfair — on his birthday"
Jim interrupts, “Don’t you think it’s a bit unfair, getting rid of Dai on his birthday?”   Hywel insists that must not stop them;  “Remember that Afrikaner!”
"I thought you were at least seventy!"
When Dai comes in, Hywel jokes, “I was shocked to hear you’re sixty – I thought seventy, at least!”   Dai tells them, “Wait until you hear the plans that I’ve got up my sleeve for the anniversary celebration!” and asks Gwen for tea and a cream horn;
Dai polishes off that cream horn in record time
Siôn sits and watches him demolish it at another table.
Cadno and Jim have another shouting match
Cadno arrives at the shop and tells Jim if he wants to discuss the farm, to talk to her, not DJ;  “You’re supposed to be sleeping partners.   You’re taking advantage of my situation!”
Eileen tries to calm things down, but later tells Jim she is regretting putting money into Penrhewl, and when Jim says he was only trying to help, she describes it as “interfering”.
Iolo tell them he will take a look at the shower
When Siôn and Britt look in at number 7, Britt asks if he might look at the shower of a friend of hers, and he reluctantly agrees to do that.   “I think it might do me good,” he says, “The doctor said I should try to do something every day.”
At the Deri, Eifion says that he spoke to Angela, and does not think he will put his name forward.
"I just can't manage without you!"
Meanwhile, behind the bar, Gemma is tired of slaving for Ed;  she tells him he was the one who wanted to burn the place down.   He begs her to stay and help him.
Before the meeting;  Geraint on the left
The Rugby Club committee meeting begins, and Siôn thinks he should chair the election of officers.
Hywel is reappointed head coach, Eifion, captain, Jim, treasurer.   Then comes chairman, and Hywel announces that he nominates Eifion.
THREE in favour of Eifion . . .
Three hands go up in favour of him, and Dai gloats, “Tough, boys, you don’t have enough votes to get rid of me,”
. . . no, make that FOUR!
but then Jim reluctantly raises his hand.   Siôn pronounces Eifion the new chairman, just as Diane and DJ come in, singing “Happy birthday to you,” and carrying a cake.
The birthday cake arrives at the worst possible time
They soon stop singing when they see the men sitting round the table.
“This is the thanks I get for years of service!   I paid that money back two weeks ago!
A brief glimpse of the cake before it is thrown
Four Judases!” growls Dai, grabs the cake from DJ and throws it down on the table.   “Eat it – I hope it chokes you!”
Eifion has not cottoned on — "No, can't think of anyone"
Hywel turns to Eifion, and tells him the club needs to find a shirt sponsor;  “Do you know anyone with some spare cash?”   Eifion cannot think of anyone.
Jim laughs at Diane's face on his cake, but Eileen is not amused
Jim expresses surprise that his piece of birthday cake has a picture of Diane, then Ed tells Eileen that Sioned has phoned him;  she is well, and is staying somewhere near the sea.
Bad news about Iolo's treatment:  not until November
As Colin is cooking Tuna Pasta Bake, Iolo receives a phone call, advising that he cannot be offered any treatment until November.
Colin looks for private clinics
When Siôn calls in again, Colin is looking for private clinics, but Iolo does not want to go private.   Despite assuring his father he is all right, he later starts exactly lining up the remote controls on the table.
Dai realises he still has one friend
At home, Dai will not eat his trifle, then Diane gives him a present – tickets to Paris, which does bring a brief smile.
The battered remains of the cake
DJ comes in, having salvaged some of the cake;  Dai goes off to bed, warning DJ not to touch his vintage single malt.
