Meic is disgusted by Debbie's insensitivity
In the café, Meic assures Debbie that no amount of apologies will make up for what she did;  “It’s too late for ‘sorry’ — the horse has bolted!   There’s no need to ask where you got the money for those ridiculous shoes.”
Diane has a phone call from Dai to say he will be home at midnight, so she warns DJ he will have to leave, but she will try and talk Dai round.
Eileen invites her two daughters to lunch
Sioned says he can have a room at the Deri.   Then Eileen comes in to invite Sioned and Angela to lunch, as she has some important news for them.   When Eileen has gone they look at each other;  “You dont think…?” says Angela.   “What else could it be? replies Sioned,  This family’s complicated enough already.”
"I'd known all along that he raped her the night before our wedding!"
Ricky comes home from school early, and sees his mother on the television, in a trailer for the Trudy Spencer show;  he watches, aghast, as she says, (in English) “He told me he loved me, but I’d known all along that he raped her the night before our wedding.”
Debbie revelling in her celebrity status
Meic is angry when he catches Debbie signing copies of the magazine;  “When will you stop milking this tragedy for your own benefit?” he demands.   Then Mark comes in with the news about Debbie being on television on Friday.
The television company cancels Debbie's appearance
Later, Debbie receives a phone call from the TV company, cancelling her appearance and quoting an “exclusivity clause”.   Ricky comes in and is pleased to hear this, saying, “The idea makes me cringe.”   She tells Meic, however that she cancelled out of respect for his feelings.
Sioned is put out that her inheritance is to be shared
Eileen announces to her daughters that her marriage to Jim is not legal, and Sioned reveals that she knew but did not want to spoil their day.   “So you’re not pregnant?” says Angela, and Eileen bursts out laughing.   She tells them that Jim is paying Mark to keep quiet, and that worries her more than the legal situation.   When she says that she will change her will, to include Angela, Sioned shouts, “My inheritance?”   Eileen replies that she lost a brother and gained a sister;  “You’ve never been an only child, so stop behaving like one!”
Anita calls at Bryntirion, on the pretext of helping DJ move his things to the Deri.   He tells her that Diane is at APD, and Dai will not be back until midnight;  he needs help upstairs, and not with boxes of belongings.   They disappear up the stairs.
Dai is far from happy to know that DJ is back at Bryntirion
Dai arrives back early at the Deri, and while he waits for Meic to take him home by taxi, Sioned tells him he can help DJ move out of Bryntirion.    Dai, with a face like thunder, cannot get home quickly enough.
Dai catches DJ, in his dressing  gown
When he opens the door, he meets DJ, clad in Dai’s dressing gown, coming downstairs.   Dai bellows, “Diane!” and races upstairs, where Anita has hidden in a wardrobe and so escapes detection.   When Dai goes to look outside, Anita slips out of the back door, then Diane returns from work.
Dai says he is glad he had to catch an earlier flight, or he would not have found out about, “Roger the Lodger”.   Then he discovers the new en-suite is finished, and Diane admits that Kevin has been staying there.
Mark has a "cracker of a story" for the television company
As soon as Debbie tells Mark about the cancellation, he has an idea, and rings the TV company, telling them (in English) that he has a cracker of a story for them:  “A controversial relationship in a small Welsh village.”
Angela delivers a furious diatribe at Mark
Soon afterwards, Angela bursts in and accuses him of ruining other people’s happiness.   “Why can’t you keep your nose out?”
Dinner-time at Meic and Anita's
As Meic and Anita sit down for dinner, Meic admits that however terrible the things Kevin has done, he cannot stop loving him.   Anita receives a text:  “Can I see you again?”

28 April 2014

Debbie comes downstairs in the café wearing high heels;  Meic warns she will break her neck, but she says she is practising for “going somewhere” on Friday.
Colin recognises someone on the front of the magazine
Colin puts copies of “True People” magazine on the shop shelf, then takes a closer look at the cover.
Debbie's detailed story, which made her a lot of money
Intrigued, he looks inside, to find Debbie’s story.   He displays a sign in the shop window, between two magazine covers — “GET YOUR COPY HERE” .
Eileen rages at Colin for his stupidity
When Anita sees it, she is incensed, but Colin says it will increase sales.   After Anita has complained, Eileen commands him to send all of them back, but he admits he has ordered more copies.
Mark meets Jim and Eileen in the street, and tells them that Gemma is coming back today;  Jim glowers at him, and slips some money into his pocket.   Just then, Gemma creeps up behind Mark and says, “Bonjour, monsieur!”
Mark cannot resist telling Gemma what he discovered
After a hug, Gemma asks what she has missed;  “Mark replies, “The biggest scandal of the year — Eileen and Jim are not married, and Eileen doesn’t know about it!”
In the café, Debbie is looking at the magazine, but hides it when Meic approaches;  Sheryl comes in and joins Cadno, who says she has escaped from the Lifestyle Wales photo shoot.   She feels that she is in the way and irrelevant, and Sheryl says she knows what it is like to feel guilty;  “You can’t cuddle them over Skype,” she laments.
Colin shows Mark one of the magazines, hidden inside Cwm Ni;  Mark cannot believe that even Debbie would stoop to this.
Cadno catches Colin with the magazines
When Cadno walks in, she catches him hiding more magazines.   “Some of us are trying to put it behind us, and some are profiteering – including you!” is her angry comment.
As Eileen watches the video of their wedding, Jim summons up the courage to tell her, and finally he manages to blurt out, “We’re not husband and wife!   The law states a mother cannot marry her daughter’s ex-husband!   We’re not married and never can be!”   She assumes that Mark has been pulling his leg, but when he shows her several websites saying the same thing, she is convinced.
Jim is extremely depressed by this latest development
Jim bewails the fact that she is the only woman he wants to marry, but he cannot, not legally, not officially.   “I was determined that the one thing I would get right was marrying you,” he tells her.   Eileen takes off her ring and says they will have to consult a solicitor to clarify the position.
Sheryl is angry:  "Was the money too good to refuse?" she asks
As the café is closing, Sheryl bursts in, waving a copy of True People;  Debbie says she can talk to whoever she likes.   Meic is shown the magazine – “Nefi wen!” he exclaims, “How could you?   After all you and Sheryl have been through?”   Debbie says it was a relief to be able to talk to someone about it after all these months.   “Just as the scar was healing, you’ve ripped it open again!” retorts Meic.
As Meic is in the Deri, telling Anita he cannot understand why people read such rubbish, Sheryl strides in, telling Colin she has a bone to pick with him.   “Selling magazines ‘under the counter’!   I want every copy you’ve got – tonight – or I tell Eileen!”
Sheryl and Cadno have a drink together
Then she tells Cadno that Debbie was right that we all need someone to talk to.
After Eileen and Jim have enjoyed a steak meal which they prepared together, Eileen says, “It’s things like this that keep couples together, not signatures on pieces of paper.”
"Will you be my unmarried and illegal wife?"
They sit on the sofa, Jim gets the ring and slips it back on her finger, saying, “Eileen, will you be my unmarried and illegal wife for the rest of your life?”
“Of course I will, you fool!” she replies.
Sheryl takes extreme measures; several sacks of shredded "True People"
Sheryl is feeding True People magazines into her shredder, when Debbie arrives in apologetic mood, but maintaining that she deserved to be heard.   Sheryl reminds her it was not her story to sell, but then Debbie offers Sheryl a cheque for £500, half of what she received from the magazine.
Debbie's attempt to "buy off" Sheryl
Rejecting the money, Sheryl remarks, “Not everyone can be bought!”

Garry and Gwern playing with cars;  Dani just out of the shower
Next morning, Garry and Gwern are playing with model cars;  he tells Dani he will not pretend that yesterday’s events did not hurt.   Dani says, “I’m not apologising for my decision, but I’m sorry you had to go through that.”   Garry takes Gwern out to feed the ducks.
Jinx will not cancel the unveiling because Gemma is absent
Jinx is in the Deri, publicising the unveiling of the mural, when Mark comes in and wants him to cancel the event, as Gemma is not there;  Jinx responds that she packed her bags and went to Europe.   Colin is doubtful if anyone will want to come and hear Jinx “spouting off.”   Ed refuses to provide free refreshments for the event, so Jinx goes to see Eileen in the shop.
Sioned points out the PR advantages of providing free refreshments
Meanwhile, Sioned persuades Ed that it would be good for the Deri to get some publicity;  all they would need is some cheap wine and crisps “at their sell-by date”.   So Ed changes his mind and follows Jinx to the shop, where he engages in a sort of bidding war with Eileen as to how much they will donate.   Eileen tells Jinx as she was second choice, he is not getting anything.
Sheryl visits Dani to check she is all right after yesterday
Sheryl goes to see Dani, and they are both pleased that Garry managed to keep his temper under control yesterday.   Dani says she is going to organise something for the three of them, as a family.
Another surprise for Mark, doing Ricky's homework
Mark is again working on Ricky’s school project when Jim arrives to fix a damp patch by the sink;  suddenly Mark discovers on a genealogy site that it is illegal to marry one’s former mother-in-law.
A grim-faced Jim cannot believe what he is reading
This is very unsettling for Jim, and he is not amused when Mark finds that this does not apply if the daughter is dead, and jokingly suggests that he should kill Angela.
Jinx pontificates to the assembled throng, including young extras
A crowd has gathered by the mural, covered by a large sheet, opposite Megan’s shop and next to Moduron Monk.
Colin, with a glass in each hand
Sioned is serving free drinks, and when Colin cannot choose between red and white wine, he takes one of each.
View of the mural from inside Megan's shop
Jinx announces that this is an important day in the history of Cwmderi and thanks the villagers for their input, then Gwynfor pulls the rope to unveil the artwork, which Ed describes as “a bit childish.”
Dani tells Gethin to sort out his own problems, and "Ring Natalie"
Gethin goes to see Dani and is horrified that she went through with the abortion, but Dani is adamant, “I did what was right for me, and if you don’t like it, tough!   Just because you feel a bad father, don’t make me feel guilty.   You’re too busy criticising me to contact your own son.”
When she hands him the phone and tells him to ring Natalie, he refuses, saying he has made so many mistakes, and does not want to make things worse.   Dani reminds him that they both know what being rejected by parents is like;  he picks up the phone, then drops it and rushes out.
The wedding photos have just arrived, and Eileen gets emotional looking at them;  when Jim comes back, he insists that they go to the Deri for lunch, and will look at the photos later.
Jim warns Mark to, "Keep it zipped!"
Mark joins Jim at the bar and says, “You haven’t told her yet, then.   It’s never the right time to tell your missus she’s not your missus, and she’s going to jail!”   Jim is desperate to keep him quiet, and promises him a pint, and his damp patch repaired for free, “But only if you keep it zipped!”
Sioned, astonished at being blamed for losing Ed money
When Ed discovers that no photographer has been booked to record the event, and there is no media presence, he is angry;  he tells Sioned, “If I hadn’t listened to you, I wouldn’t be out of pocket now!”
When Garry and Gwern return home, Dani has rolled out artificial grass on the floor and provided a picnic, including Gwern’s favourite, doughnuts.   “What are we going to do with all this food?’ she asks.

Gwern is in no doubt about what to do with all this food
Gwern does not hesitate;  “Eat it!” he says.

24 April 2014

Sheryl says, "Don't help me, go and be with Dani."
Dani assembles all that she needs to take to the clinic, and Garry pops out to get her a magazine from the shop;  on the way he sees Sheryl, putting up some bunting outside the salon.   She wants to attract more customers, so she can afford to visit Wil.   Then Cadno passes, wants to get Bobi’s hair cut, and says she admires Sheryl for standing up against Kevin.
As he helps with the bunting, Gethin hears about the abortion
Next is Gethin, and Sheryl mentions the abortion being today, so, as he was unaware of this, he rushes to Garry’s flat, and insists on seeing Dani.
Gethin is insistent about Dani keeping the baby, but to no avail
He demands that Dani listen to what he has to say, that the baby is his niece or nephew, and Daniel’s cousin, and she should not be missing out on family life.   Dani replies that their family is a mess, but he talks of a clean slate and putting the past behind her.   “What if I took the baby and looked after it?   That’s better than the other choice, isn’t it, Garry?” he asks, but Garry remains silent.
Garry is finding it difficult to keep his emotions in check
After Dani has made Gethin leave, Garry admits that he must accept Dani’s choice;  “If I can’t be a father, neither can Gethin.   I hate that you’re doing this, but I’ve accepted it – I have to lose the baby to keep you!” he tells her.
Mark has borrowed a book from Siôn on Welsh terminology and has found the words for “second cousin” and “mistress”;  the others in the Deri wonder why he cannot think of something better to do than this genealogy.
What on earth has Mark seen on that laptop screen?
Later at home he seems to discover something tremendous, but when Siôn calls, Mark is brought down to earth.   He thought he was related to Sir Tom Jones, and envisages women throwing their knickers at him, but Siôn points out that although the date of birth is the same, the Tom Jones on Mark’s laptop was born in the wrong place, and Sir Tom’s original surname was Woodward.
Siôn assures him that everyone makes mistakes;  “It’s not unusual,” he quips, then finds that Mark may be related to Mari Jones of Bala , who walked 25 miles to buy a Welsh Bible.   However, Mark would prefer to be related to a sex symbol.   As Siôn leaves, he mentions the unveiling of the community mural, tomorrow at 2.00pm;  Mark is angry that Gemma will not be there, as it was her idea, and says, “Wait till I see that Jinx!”
Angela discovers the review on Holadvisor, and is rather excited
Angela is looking at her laptop, and, choking on her tea, suddenly shouts, “Aargh!   Felicity has reviewed us on Holadvisor!”   The review mentions a great teepee, tastefully furnished, warmly welcomed by Angela and Eifion – a great place.
Angela's Glamping idea seems to be a success
She also reveals they have another booking for Whitsun:  a couple with an under-five child, staying for a week.
As Angela congratulates herself, and Cadno looks quietly disgusted, she says what they need is national press coverage.
Every time Cadno and Eifion have a chat, Angela breaks it up
Later, as Cadno and Eifion are talking about little Arthur’s progress, Angela once again bounds in, with the news that, “Lifestyle Wales magazine want to do an article on us, for their series on Alternative Breaks in West Wales.”   She has spoken to a friend of a friend, and they are coming next week to do interviews and take photos.
Eifion embraces Angela;  “She’s a hell of a woman, isn’t she?” he enthuses, and Cadno replies, without feeling, “Yes.   Congratulations.”
Dani and Garry return in silence
Dani and Garry arrive back at the flat in silence;  they sit on the sofa, she snuggles up to him and asks, “Do you think we’ll be OK after this?”
Dani hopes that the relationship can survive today's events
Garry quietly answers, “Things will be better tomorrow,” and kisses her.

23 April 2014

The Western Post prominently features the court case

Meic takes the Western Post from his letterbox and sees the main headline – “PLEA CHANGE SHOCKER.”   Meanwhile Sheryl is telling Anita that it is time for a fresh start;  she talked to Wil on Skype, and is thinking about going to see him.   She invites Anita and Meic to come with her.
Diane tells DJ she has lost the knack of “reading people”, and must go and apologise to three people;  first, she goes to Meic’s, where he understands her motives and thanks her for rescuing Kevin from the gutter.
Meic persuades Anita to bury the hatchet with Diane
Anita takes more persuading, but eventually is reconciled to Diane, and invites her to lunch at the Deri.
Sheryl, indulging in a little horticultural work
Diane then visits Sheryl, planting flower tubs outside the salon;  Sheryl says she is not angry with her any more, but reminds Diane she is not a liar.
Lois, angry at Rhys, and now he has eaten her croissant!
Rhys eats Lois’s croissant at breakfast time, at which Lois loses her temper, and tells Gaynor she is angry at being “used” in the Deri to prove that he is not gay.
Hywel has just run to Llanarthur and back when he hears Gaynor's fears
When Hywel returns, exhausted, from his morning run, Gaynor broaches the subject, suggests that Rhys’s flings with Lois and Rachel were simply “experimenting” and advises Hywel to talk to his son.   When he does so later, asking, “Got a special girl these days?” Gaynor comes to his aid, continuing, “Is there a special boy in your life?”
"No, I am not gay!" says Rhys, and explains about the photo
Rhys is angry that they have heard the rumours, and shouts that he is not gay, then explains about Iolo’s photo;  Hywel argues with Gaynor and storms off to find Iolo.   Gaynor tells Rhys he should be ashamed of treating Lois like that.
DJ is still chatting-up Anita
Anita and Diane arrive at the Deri, where DJ presents them with the menu, recommending his speciality, Chicken Fricasee, and flirting with Anita, who then tells Diane about the kiss last week, warning her not to tell anyone (fat chance).   Diane advises her not to get involved, as she is old enough to be DJ’s mother, and might get hurt.   After their meal, DJ tells Anita he wants to pick up where they left off last week, but Anita does not want such complications, and tells him to leave it.
Meic in in no frame of mind to think about a trip to Canada
Sheryl has been looking at flights to Canada and shows Meic some prices, but he is in no state to think about such things.   “No matter what I do, or where I go, I can’t escape the fact that my son is in jail for rape.”
Sheryl assures him that he will learn to live with it, and wonders, “How would it feel if he had not confessed?   You’ve lost a son, but gained a daughter.”
Kevin's belongings are packed into a box to go to his mother
Later, Meic is packing a box, bearing Nansi’s address, with Kevin’s belongings.
Hywel catches up with Iolo outside the shop, and shouts, “Oi!   I’m not happy with the way you’re suggesting that Rhys is gay!   I hope you didn’t try it on with him!”
"I wouldn't touch Rhys if he were the last man on earth!" snarls Iolo
Rhys sees this altercation from the other end of the street, and as Iolo emphatically states, “I wouldn’t touch Rhys if he were the last man on earth!”  Lois comes out of the chippy, only to be blamed by Rhys for starting all this ill-feeling.
Lois gets the blame for Hywel's tirade against Iolo
When Iolo approaches them, Rhys wants to know what he told Hywel;  “I thought of revealing your big secret,” Iolo admits, “But I’m not as underhanded as you!”
Lois demands to know what this “secret” is, and when she threatens to go and ask Iolo, Rhys reveals that he has left college.   Later, at home he explains to her that he could not cope with all the work, and boasts that he has managed to conceal the fact from Hywel for a fortnight.   He is worried that she will tell Hywel;  Lois says she does not owe him any favours, and he tries to kiss her, but she shoves him away.
Lois is exasperated with Rhys:  "Tell him yourself," she urges
“Think before you act,” she says, “And tell your father yourself!”
