"You shouldn't have done what you did!"
As Kevin puts on his tie, he tells Nansi she should not have threatened Sheryl, and Nansi replies, “And you shouldn’t have done what you did either!”
Sheryl is in a state, and drops a cup, smashing it;  Garry and Dani go to collect her and take her to the court.
Eifion assures Cadno that she should give evidence
Cadno tells Eifion she cannot face going, but Eifion stresses that Sheryl is relying on her, and says he will go with her;  Cadno demands why he wants to, after all that has happened in the last year.   He simply says that she knows that going is the right thing to do.
The witnesses are waiting for their evidence to be required
In the court waitingroom, Debbie and DS Fielding are joined by Meic, Sheryl and Garry, who is concerned that Cadno has not arrived.   Shortly afterwards, as Meic prepares to go and find her, Cadno enters.
The courtroom, with the jury, and with Kevin suitable enclosed
Kevin, in the glass dock, is asked how he pleads, and replies, “Not guilty,” then looks round at his mother.
Sheryl begins her evidence against Kevin
Then Sheryl begins giving evidence, stating that Kevin was under the misapprehension that there was some kind of connection between them.   Sheryl had stressed to him that she had no feelings for him, and thought it was “the beer talking.”   He said that he wanted her, pushed her against the wall and kissed her, at which point she told him to stop.   Then he grabbed her, pushed her on to the treatment table and raped her.
When she heard Garry knocking, she froze and could not scream, because Garry would have broken down the door and killed Kevin – then it would have been him in court, accused of murder.
Elin begins her very robust treatment of Sheryl
Then the defence, in the form of Elin, question Sheryl;  intimating that by singing Karaoke with Kevin, she was rekindling an old flame, and flirting with him.   She suggests that Sheryl preferred him on the bed, rather than against the wall, she had no bruises, so could not have resisted.
Elin will not give up her cross-examination
“Most women would have screamed!   You consented!   You wanted to sleep with Kevin, didn’t you?”   As Sheryl breaks down in tears, the prosecuting counsel objects, but is overruled by the judge.
Sheryl is finding the questioning too hard to bear
Elin continues, “You are lying to us, Miss Hughes;  why withdraw your first accusation?   Was it pangs of conscience?”
Kevin abruptly calls a halt to the proceedings
Sheryl is crying now, and suddenly Kevin, who has been looking increasingly uncomfortable, springs to his feet in the dock and shouts, “Stop this!   Leave her alone!”
He turns to Sheryl and tells her, “You haven’t done anything wrong – it’s my fault.”   Elin urges Kevin not to say another word, and the judge asks if Kevin realises the seriousness of what he has said.   Kevin asserts, “I don’t want a break, I want to plead guilty!”
Elin is absolutely livid that he has sabotaged her case
When he is taken to another room, Elin is absolutely furious with him;  “What were you thinking?   We could have won the case!”
"I deserve everything I get!"
Kevin admits, “It was the right thing to do – I’ve been fooling myself – I never intended to hurt her, but I did, and I deserve everything I get.”
In the waitingroom, at 11:30am, the potential witnesses are told that Kevin has pleaded guilty, so they all file into the court, Garry hugging Sheryl on the way.
The judge announces that Kevin faces years of imprisonment
The judge tells Kevin, “You did the right thing, but you kept the truth from this court.   I must pass a sentence to reflect the seriousness of your actions;  it will be a severe punishment – years of imprisonment.    Take him down!”
Kevin turnes to Sheryl, and says, "Sorry."
As he is led down the steps, Kevin stops, turns toward Sheryl and says, “Sorry!”
