15 October 2014

Kath is unsteady on her feet
Kath gets up from the sofa, and almost loses her balance;  the phone rings, and a faint voice says, “Hello, hello.”
"Mark, is that you?"
Kath exclaims, “Mark, is that you?”   She tells Stacey that she heard his voice, and will not accept Stacey’s assurances that Mark has gone.
You would have thought that reception would be good up there
Overlooking the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Mark tells Liam that the phone reception is terrible;  the next time he tries to ring, the house phone has been left off the hook.   They are glad they got tickets on the tour bus, and Mark is not at all keen to go home.
Megan has prepared plan B, just in case
In the café, Megan rushes in to tell Siôn, Meic and Anita that the vestry is prepared for the wake, as plan B in case the co-operative do not get the Deri.
Siôn agrees, “We don’t know who might outbid us,” but Meic is confident they will win.
Yes, he is helping himself to chapel funds . . .
Back at Y Felin, Siôn carries out an online transfer of £20,000 from Bethania Chapel’s account to his own,
. . . and quoting Scripture while he does it!
while quoting, from Ezra 10:4, “Be of good courage, and do it!”
Liam finds a garbled message on his mobile, which sounds something like, “Mark’s dead,” but he assumes that it refers to Mark’s phone, which was trashed;  Mark confirms that he is definitely not dead.
"Let's go to the zoo!"
They agree they they will visit the zoo.
At the Deri, people arrive for the auction;  Dai tells Siôn, “You think clubbing together your pocket-money will beat the highest bidder?   I’m a businessman!”   He then tells Anita that it all fell apart the last time they had the Deri, and Siôn reminds him that the same thing happened when Dai ran the Bull at Llanarthur.
Kath faces the awful truth (or not)
The coffin has arrived at Maes-y-Deri,
She is prevented from performing some "do-it-yourself"
and Kath wishes it were open, going so far as to find a screwdriver to remove the lid, so Stacey drags her out of the house.   “We can’t leave Mark!” says Kath, but Stacey replies, “He’s not going anywhere.”
"A delightful village pub, with business potential"
The same auctioneer who sold Carreg Wen welcomes everyone, and Kath and Stacey arrive just as he invites an opening bid of £160,000.
Rapt attention as the auction begins
Stacey’s hand goes up, to the surprise of everyone, then Meic bids 165, Stacey 170, and Dai comes in with 175.
Then Kath slumps to the floor
At this point, Kath collapses on the floor, and amidst the confusion, Meic calls for an ambulance.   The auctioneer announces that the sale is postponed for a while.
She is suffering from lowered blood pressure
Kath is unconscious in a hospital bed as Stacey shows the sedative tablets she has taken, which reacted with Kath’s blood pressure tablets.
The auction restarts, with the news that, for personal reasons, Stacey Jones has withdrawn her bid, so they restart with Dai’s bid.
What a time to tell Siôn about Meic!
Inexplicably, Britt thinks this an opportune moment to tell Siôn the news about Meic dying of cancer, as Meic bids 180.
"We're both on the same side," says Meic
Then comes a completely unexpected bid – “£185,000 from Mr White,” and Meic turns round to remind Siôn they are both on the same side.   Siôn replies, “I’m bidding for myself and Britt!”   Dai is stopped by Diane from bidding 190, but Meic does,
Siôn's winning bid of £200,000
and as the gavel is about to fall, Siôn holds up both hands – £200,000, and it is sold to him, much to the displeasure of the members of the co-operative.
The congratulatory hugs are shortlived . . .
Britt hugs Siôn, Anita asks, “Why has he done that?” and Meic calls him “Judas!”
. . . as Meic's knockout punch is delivered with a blur of speed
then turns to him and unleashes a vicious punch, which has Siôn sprawling on the floor.   As the auctioneer calls for some order, Siôn gets up and writes a cheque for £20,000, ten per cent of the final price.   Dai urges Meic, “Give him another one, Pierce!”
No-one wants to hear Siôn's explanation
As Siôn and Britt leave to a chorus of booing and jeering, Dai demands, “Who do you think will be drinking in your pub, after this fiasco?”
Anita saw "The old Meic"
Anita hugs Meic, and later at home tells him how proud of him she is;  “I saw the old Meic, the one I fell for years ago!”
"I never trusted that Siôn White!"
Then Dai and Diane call, with Dai still ranting about, “That Judas, Siôn White – I never trusted him!   Now all the profits go into his pocket.”   Anita suspects that Britt was probably pulling the strings there.
Meic is disappointed;  “He could have withdrawn from the initiative, but he was such a coward.”   Dai mutters, “Insider knowledge!” and Anita calls it, “Betrayal.”
Laughter about the elephant breaking wind
In another Bristol pub Mark laughs about the rudeness of the elephant, but Liam mentions its perfect timing.   Liam does not seem very eager to see his mother, saying he will be in Cwmderi at Christmas.
Mark decides to go back to Cwmderi tomorrow
Mark decides to go home tomorrow, while Liam visits a friend in Bath.
Kath wakes up in hospital, and is keen to leave, but after realising that she is still not feeling herself, is persuaded by Stacey to stay there overnight.
Stacey explains why she bid for the Deri
Stacey says she had bid for the Deri so that she and her mother could do something together, but Kath does not want to move back to the village.
Expensive treatment for a black eye!
Britt uses the age-old remedy of steak on Siôn’s black eye;  he worries how he is going to face people at the funeral, and thinks he has been cruel to Meic.   Britt, however, is convinced that what he has done will benefit them, the Deri and the village.   “They’ll come to realise that you did the right thing,” she tells him.
It is a little late to have second thoughts now
But Siôn predicts, “They’ll never forgive me!”
